Rambutan

The name rambutan is based on its appearance with many short hairs. This is a tropical fruit in Southeast Asia, belonging to the Sapindaceae family. Currently, rambutan is not only grown in Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore, and the Philippines but also spread to Africa, Oceania and Central America.

Rambutan trees have a height of 12 - 20m. The tree produces flowers that grow in clusters of about 10-20 fruits, round or bulbous in shape, with an average length of 3 - 6 cm, width 3 - 4 cm. The red (can be orange or yellow) rambutan shell is surrounded by soft spines (often called hairs). The soft flesh inside covers the seeds, is pale in color and has a sweet, slightly sour taste. In addition to being used as a snack, there are many delicious dishes from rambutan such as sweet soup, curry, salad, cocktail,... In addition, rambutan seeds are raw materials to make oil and soap; Rambutan trees and roots are used to make pharmaceuticals.
